How to stop my dog from barking and lunging at dogs on walks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed

Ive a terrier x pup. So lovable at home fun active playful but has rec turned into a nightmare to walk. She barks and lunges at all dogs. At the start she wanted to play with them now it sounds aggressive. I have tried picking her up to remove her from situation and she tries everything in her power to get back down to try get to the dog. She is great with other dogs in play area so unsure as to why walking sets her off. I really dont know what to do as my other dog behaves perfectly on walks.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Sometimes dogs can become leash aggressive. I would recommend using a pinch collar to help control her a bit better. You can also use a citronella collar or electric bark collar to stop the behavior. I have recommended the Adaptil products for many dogs to see if this helps. Adaptil is a pheromone emitting collar thst is supposed to help calm dogs. If you are having no success, I would recommend seeking a professional trainer to help with this behavior. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
