Two-year-old cat with her thinning on back of lower part of hind legs, and small area on side not visible except that hair is like stubble indicating hair regrowth.. Also possible weight loss. arrows showing spots hair thinning. Obvious concerns are thyroid /cancer. Could dry home in winter also be a possibility?

We very rarely see any thyroid problems or cancer in 2 year old cats. The most common reason for hair loss in that area is that the cat is rubbing that area when walking, jumping, etc, so it is more common to see in older cats. If Annie has lost weight, I think the best idea is to have her vet examine her and perform bloodwork to look for any internal organ abnormalities. If all that is normal, they may do some testing on the areas of hair loss to look for an underlying cause in the skin. I doubt it has anything to do with dryness in the winter. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that your vet can help you figure out what is going on with Annie. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
