My dog chewed an air freshener can. Is it toxic if she ingested it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 4 days old | 10 lbs

My dog just bit into a small can of air fresher that fell off my shelf, I’m afraid some of the stuff inside might have gotten into there mouth as she jumped away?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is pretty unlikely that Marley was able to puncture the can with her teeth. I would be concerned that she jumped because she fractured a tooth or injured herself on the can. She may have just been startled. A small amount of air freshener is likely to be bitter and may cause besides and vomiting. I recommend keeping a close eye on Marley. She should be seen by a vet if you think she is painful in the mouth (hypersalivating, guarding, etc) or is vomiting or lethargic. I hope this helps and that all is well with Marley!
