Is generic ClearLax safe for my cat's constipation instead of Miralax?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 12 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

My cat currently takes a daily dose of miralax to keep his stool soft and prevent constipation (he’s had trouble with this for years). My question is whether generic clear lax is safe to use in place of miralax. Both list peg 3350 as the active (and only) ingredient and the dosage on the bottle (for humans) is the same for both brands. I just don’t want to throw anything off for our cat just to save money. Thank you for your time!

ClearLAX is a generic form of Miralax. It has the same active ingredient in the same was that Ibuprofen is the generic form of Advil. We know that a generic product has the same active ingredient. So, it should work the same as Miralax. That being said, sometimes name brand products do work better than generic products, so if you try it and Elvis' stools seem to be harder or he seems to have having a harder time defecating, I would certainly switch back to Miralax. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
