Why is my male dog obsessed with our new unspayed female dog?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 15 lbs

Ok so I’ve had a boy dog Brady (Mini schnauzer mix with a cockupooh) for 3 years and I recently just got a girl dog Lelo (Yorkie) and I got her on Christmas but eve since that day Brady has been OBSESSED with her and he cries when she is in a drifferent room than him... do u know how I can stop this problem?

I see that Lelo isn't spayed, but I'm not sure if Brady is neutered or not. He is likely very interested in her because she is an intact female and he may want to mate with her. I would not recommend mating them because it sounds like Brady's breed mix leads him to be a much larger dog than Lelo, and you should need mate a male to a female that is much smaller than her. This leads to large puppies and subsequent birthing difficulties often leading to emergency c-sections. I recommend having Lelo spayed and Brady neutered if he's still intact. That should help with his obsession with her. I would make an appointment with your vet this week. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Some intact males will occasionally become intensely interested in a spayed female dog - this may happen because of some particular smell she has, but it isn't really known exactly what causes this to occur in some cases. The best option for now is to keep them separated, as you are currently doing. If there is no improvement in the situation in the next 2-3 weeks, you may want to consider neutering Buster to avoid having to deal with this constantly in the future.

Hi there. Male dogs do not have heat cycles like females dog. However, I see that Tiny is a young adult dog, only about a year old - so it's likely that he's just now becoming interested in females. So unfortunately, this behavior is likely to continue for quite some time. He may eventually calm down a bit when he's older, but it's going to be extremely frustrating for him in the meantime to live in the same household as an intact female. Unless you're planning to use him for breeding, I would recommend having him neutered - this is the easiest way to resolve the problem :)

Since he is unneutered he may be picking up on her scent even if she is spayed, it's also a way to show dominance over other dogs. If you don't plan to breed him I suggest getting him neutered. This will help the behavior lessen over time and will also prevent some potential health problems as well as reduce the urge to roam and possibly get injured if he escapes looking for a female in heat. You can try getting him obedience training so he will be better behaved and more likely to listen when you try to separate them.

Hi, my intact male dog keeps trying to mount my spayed female dog. He is also constantly sniffing and licking everywhere she has sat down with his mouth chattering and drooling. What are the reasons he could be doing this?
Hello. He is just being a male dog. Even after neutering, some males may still try to mount females, but in his case, he is still strongly attracted to your spayed female. If you do not plan on neutering the male, keep an eye on the male as the female can get annoyed at him & you may have a fight on your hands. If your male is still quite young, he may mature out of this behavior as his instincts are very strong right now. Just keep an eye on him. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

I got a new female puppy. My 5 year old male dog is acting crazy and wants to mate with her. I can’t control him
if Prince is not neutered, this may be the reason behind the behavior. Neutering Prince will help but the behavior will not change over night. Hello I have two bull terriers a year and a half boy and year old girl. Both NOT neutered. My boy is having hard time but the female its to young and I don't want to nude my boy. Is there a way to neutered just one of them. Or what do you suggest. T
IF you are not going to breed them, then getting each fixed is the healthiest option for them. The female is old enough and she has already been through a heat cycle, so she can be scheduled at any time. This can prevent future cancers and the risk of infected uterus. By fixing just her, then she will no longer go into heat and he will not be bothered by her anymore. If you do not have plans to breed him, then he should be neutered also. this can prevent cancer and prostate problems in the future.

Then it sounds like he is just made that way. He may be using this behavior to display dominance. Tell him no firmly and redirect his attention to another fun activity or play thing. It is between you and your vet whether surgery is in Dahlia's best interest or not. In my opinion, it is worth considering now since a heart murmur does not mean she can't develop pyometra. The cure for pyometra is to be spayed, but when they are critically ill with a pyometra, they are at an increased risk of surgical or anesthetic complications. These risks would be amplified in a dog with a heart murmur. Your vet may refer Dahlia to a specialist who can provide more comprehensive monitoring during surgery. Unless my patients are in congestive heart failure, I do not hesitate to spay them with a heart murmur. My own dog has a congenital heart murmur and has undergone several anesthetic procedures during her life without complication. But like I said, your vet knows Dahlia much better than I do!

Yesterday i got home and I found my dogs stuck and now my male dog is very desperate to have sex with her what is wrong with him ?
Actually I doubt there is anything wrong with your dog. Your other dog must be a female in heat and Rambo and her were mating. Females in heat will smell very attractive through sexual hormones and will entice a male dog to mate with her. If you do not intend to breed your dogs, then I suggest you have both male and female desexed which will alleviate the problem.

My female dog is in heat, she has been now for a couple weeks, my male dog just started acting protective over her, he doesn't want anyone to go near her not even people, why is he acting like that?
This is pretty normal. Protecting her from other possible males - doesn't matter if they are human. Doesn't even matter if they are male or female. This could get ugly fast and can turn to severe aggression. If you are not planning on breeding them I suggest you get them spayed/neutered as to not promote any behavioral issues.

This is not due to stress it is likely due to the hormones she is emitting and what Anakin is picking up on. Having her spayed should help with this problem but for now I would keep them separate if possible. I hope this helps!
