My cat ate my earbuds! What should I do if my cat swallowed an earbud?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 20 days old

Hello. I just found out that my cat probably eat my earbuds and I noticed that he make a weird sound just once. I thought it was something else so I chose to ignore it, but when I picked up my earbuds I'm freaking out because I saw them playing with it and now it just only the left of it. What should I do? He's been acting normal and I've been pressing his tummy and he did not make any sound. My cats - Ginger and Leo are the ones that are playing with the earbuds. I'm not sure who eats it. Help!

The biggest concern with a cat eating an ear bud is that it will get stuck in the stomach or the intestines. If the cord was also swallowed, that can cause even more problems. Ear buds can sometimes be seen on x-rays, but since you do not know who may have eaten it, you would have to x-ray both cats. Please be sure to monitor both Ginger and Leo closely. If either of them starts to vomit, does not eat or does not appear to be feeling well, please have them evaluated by your veterinarian ASAP. Good luck! I hope that was helfpul and that Leo and Ginger are fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
