Why is my dog in pain, won't eat, and has a hard lump on her side?

Poor Bella. She sounds very uncomfortable and although the signs are quite vague it is possible she has severe nausea and possibly a fever. I would recommend a full vet check to rule out an intestinal obstruction or pancreatitis given the degree of pain and wincing

When a dogs back hurts they tend to guard their back by tensing their belly muscles. If it is belly pain, then it could be from a viral infection, pancreatitis, gas or ileus, foreign body ingestion (ate something that is stuck), inflammatory bowel disease, food allergy or intolerance. I would try to feed her a bland diet for a couple of days. Boil some chicken or hamburger meat and mic it will rice. You can even add some meat flavored baby foods on top. If she still refuses to eat I highly recommend a Vet exam. All of the possibly causes are treated differently. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

Poor Bella! This is a situation where you should absolutely have your pet seen by a veterinarian. They can do a physical exam to determine where and why she is painful, also blood work and x-rays could also be done. Poor Bella. If she is that painful in her tummy than she needs to be seen by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a physical exam, run lab-work, and take x-rays to help determine the source of the pain. She could have pancreatitis, an infection, kidney problem, back problem. etc. Please call your vet and have her seen so your vet can prescribe medications to help with any pain.

These symptoms are very concerning for a possible organ enlargement in the abdomen or even heart disease (causes fluid build up in the belly). I would highly recommend taking Buttons in to your vet for some testing (bloodwork and radiographs) to determine the exact cause of her illness. Hello, I am sorry to hear about your dog. Even though your dog has not demonstrated any vomiting or diarrhea I am concerned that he could still have a problem going on in his abdomen. Depending on what type of dog he is, it is possibly that he is experiencing bloat. Alternatively he could have pancreatitis, which can be very uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend having him seen by your veterinarian or an ER veterinarian if need be so that they can assess him and help get to the bottom of what's going on. She could be painful elsewhere, like in her joints if she has a tick borne disease like Lyme. She also may not be wagging or jumping up because she is systemically sick with a virus or bacterial infection, ate something gross, has a foreign body, ate a toxin, has pancreatitis or a liver or kidney problem or a fever. Although I can't know for sure, it's possible Luna is experiencing abdominal pain. Just like humans, there could be many reasons ranging from mild (gas) to serious (bloat). Try taking Luna for a 20 minute, slow controlled walk. Try feeding her a small meal. If the behavior continues beyond 30 minutes or if it seems like it is getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian right away as it could indicate something serious like bloat.
