My new puppy isn't urinating often. Is this normal for her age?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 4 days old | 2 lbs

Hello, We just brought home our puppy yesterday. She is a small two month old shorkie, probably no more than 1-2 pounds. First vet visit is Mon. She seems very content, eating, drinking and playing. She doesn't seem to urinate much. Maybe only twice today, from this morning to now. Is this ok? She does not seem uncomfortable and likes her food and water. Thank you!

Good question. Puppies usually urinate more frequently with varing amounts depending on how much they drink. If your puppy is eating canned or dry mixed with small amount of water, this will increase the frequency of urination as well. Bottom line, if the puppy is acting normal in all ways, i wouldn't be overly concerned, however, might be important to discuss during your puppy's exam and vaccination appointments moving forward, starting at 6-8 weeks of age through about 16 weeks of age. Best of luck with your new puppy. Dr Steve Popish.
