How to handle my dog's food obsession and constant begging for treats?

How can I keep my dog from obsessing about food? I feed him the correct amount of a good quality dog food twice per day, but he constantly begs for treats in between meals. It is like an obsession with him. Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 16 lbs

That's a tough one and a common trait with dogs. Unfortunately, getting him to not obsess about food is probably not possible. You can ignore it, which may keep him from continually begging. Or, if you feel bad for him, then you can start giving him some low-calorie snack options throughout the day. Some dogs love eating vegetables like celery, green beans and carrots. These are all good, low-calories options to feed him throughout the day. You can also keep him busy by giving him ice cubes to lick and giving toys that you can put small amounts of treats or flavored pastes in. The pet store has a few options for these types of toys.
