My old cat has kidney cysts, won't eat, losing weight, unstable. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My Cat is about 14 years old and has cysts in her kidneys. She has dropped her weight rapidly and won’t eat or drink anything. We tried feeding her a small amount through a syringe and she just threw it up a couple hours later. She has normal reactions to being petted and called out to but everything that concerns ingesting something, she turns away from. She is also unable to walk from the bathroom to the kitchen and is very unstable when standing. Is there anything that we can do for her?

My concern is that Evelyn is potentially having kidney disease or failure from the cysts with what you are describing. The only thing you can do (if this is what is going on) is take her to a veterinarian and run blood work to see how bad her kidneys are. If the numbers are bad (which I would assume they are with her symptoms) she would need intense hospitalization and IV fluids. There is really nothing at home that you can do for her. I am so sorry she isn't doing well and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
