Is my new kitten's bobtail a health concern or normal variation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 13 days old | 8 lbs

I just adopted a kitten with a bobtail. We haven’t gotten her yet as she needs to be spayed and the rescuer does this. In my kittens litter, some kittens had bobtails, while some did not. Is this bobtail an indicator of health issues or anything to worry about? (You can sort of see the bobtail in the photo)

Absolutely not! This is a normal genetic variation and just causes them to have a short tail. Most cats with bobtails live normal lives as those without. Of course, I cannot guarantee that your cat will be without problems, but it doesn't have to do with the bobtail. She is REALLY cute BTW!
