Is my pregnant dog in labor? Restless, discharge, and temp drop.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 7 months old

We don't know how far along Lola is but we know she is in her final stages as we adopted her from the pound and she was already pregnant, the vet didn't know how far along she was either but said the final stages. Lola is restless, has diarrhea, has a clear to creamy mucus coming from her vagina, she isn't off her food and temp dropped to 36.9 yesterday morning at 8.00am now it hovering around 37s, pups seemed to have moved inwards rather than around the sides of her tummy. Is she close?

She does look like she is very much due! Any discharge which is not followed within 24hours by labor and delivery is very concerning and may indicate infection which is concerning for both the mother and puppies. Please have her checked by a vet as soon as possible

She will probably deliver the puppies in the next 24 hours and labour has possibly already started. An error of 3-5days in counting pregnancy days is normal and quite common. I would recommend a check up anyway at your local veterinarian to determine if the discharge is normal (otherwise at least a picture would be necessary) and if she requires any medical treatment to facilitate delivery. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
