Why won't my cat's nose wound heal and keeps bleeding for months?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 8.81 lbs

Hi there. Since September, my cat has a wound on the nose. Sometimes it heals good and it turns almost invisible and that is when I have hope it will heal forever, however, most of the time he ends ups making it bleed again. This can take 2-3 weeks and then go bad again. I am sure he is the one making it bleed scratching himself. I thought about getting him this collar to prevent him to scratch the would but I find that wearing that for 2-3 weeks is too much. Could you please help me?

Thank you for including the picture, it is helpful. I had a situation in a patient like Bongo that I found a tooth in (likely from a fight with another cat). But an object festering could be the cause of a non-healing wound. Also there is the potential of a growth. Less likely because he is so young, but still possible. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon. It is small enough that they may just recommend removing it all together and sending it out for a biopsy. Best of luck and I hope he heals soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
