My ferret is gagging and throwing up her liquid medicine. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Female | spayed | 1.5 lbs

My ferret had coughing symptoms so we took her to the vet and they gave her liquid medicine she’s supposed to take for 2 weeks which is supposed to help her. This is her 6th day taking it and now she’s starting to gag and throw it up. What should I do?

It is definitely concerning that Luna is vomiting. While this may be caused by antibiotics, which commonly cause nausea and/or diarrhea, it is important for other things such as foreign bodies or intestinal parasites to be ruled out. I recommend letting your vet know what is going on, and holding off on giving the next dose of antibiotics until speaking wrote your vet. I hope this helps and that all is well with Luna!

It sounds as Luna is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
