My dog has itchy red and white bumps on his chin and lips. What is it?

However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet. I’m worried he may need antibiotics, as he may have a deep skin infection. Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product. Hello. Your picture is a bit blurry, but it does look like there is a staph infection going on. If you are not using stainless steel or ceramic food & water dishes, I would switch over. You need to pick up an antiseptic skin cleanser like Hibiclens ( chlorhexidine ), available at any pharmacy, & gently clean the chin area twice a day. It may take 10 -14 days for the lesions to start to clear, but if things are not looking better or seem to be getting worse, please see your veterinarian. Your pup may need antibiotics. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Kovu! Possible causes are a deep bacterial skin infection (deep pyoderma), demodex (non-contagious mite) and Juvenile Cellulitus (puppy strangles). I recommend you take the to the Vet. Consider having a skin scrape done to check for mites or prophylactically put them on Nexgard or Bravecto (get demodex mites as well as fleas and ticks) and start them on an antibiotic. They usually need to be on antibiotics for several weeks. I would also change their food bowls to metal if they are plastic. Puppy strangles is an immune condition that requires high doses of steroids. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

You can buy online or at your local pet store chlorhexidine based pads which are an antimicrobial you can apply twice daily for a week. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian at that time for further assessment and treatment as other possibilities include skin allergies or mange for instance. Good luck!

These look like acne type lesions to me and can occur in dogs secondary to allergies or contact hypersensitivity from things like plastic food bowls. A skin growth or insect bite might be another possibility. I'd recommend having your vet take a look in person to determine what these are - they might recommend taking a sample using a small needle to examine under the microscope.

Monte's red bumpy shin could be due to a bacterial infection similar to acne, parasites in the pores of the chin or an allergic reaction. Treatment is dependent on the cause and your veterinarian will likely get an idea of the exact cause after a physical exam. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. This will helps with allergies and acne. Pets with acne also do best if the food/water dishes and toys are washed on a weekly basis. Also change the dishes to ceramic or stainless steel. Allergic reactions may require additional systemic medications or a diet change where as acne often responds to a medicated wipe. Parasites respond to an antiparasitic medication. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). I would recommend starting with a 3 week course of oral antibiotics. I would change his food bowels to metal or glass and clean them thouroughly daily.
