Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 22 lbs
My dog ate garbage (unknown what he actually ate) on Friday afternoon. He began puking last night around 1130-12 (so more than 24 hours later). He ate leaves like crazy to induce more vomiting. He puked a few times throughout the night and this morning is just puking up white foam every so often. He’s normal aside from that, albeit a bit tired, but still barking at people outside, etc. He does have a sensitive stomach to begin with. What can I do for him?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Monty! Since you are not sure what was in the trash we have to keep a foreign body obstruction (something is stuck in his stomach or intestines that require surgery to remove). So if he continues to vomit in to monday he should see your Vet for an exam and X-rays. Pancreatitis and simple gastro-intestinal upset are also possible, though I'd be more convinced if he also had diarrhea. I would fast Monty of 12 hours and withhold water for 6 hours. If he continue to vomit while being fasted from water or food he should be seen on emergency today. If there is no vomiting for 6 hours offer small amounts of water frequently and ice chips. If he holds that down start feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice at the 12 hour mark. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. If he vomits during the fast period, after the water or the food is offered he needs to be seen by a Vet. If he does well, feed the bland diet for 3-5 days and then transition back to his dog food. I hope this helps and I wish Monty a speedy recovery!
