My puppy is recovering from Parvo. Can I give her more food safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 22 days old | 24 lbs

We have a puppy who is currently recovering from Parvo. The hospital released her to us to take care of at home yesterday and said to give her a few tablespoons of food every half hour. However, she's keeping everything down and asking for more food. Is it ok to give her a bit more, so long as we monitor her to make sure it's staying down? We have the special g/i diet, nothing too irritating. Thank you!

I would very very slowly increase her intake. Sometimes if you over do it she will vomit as the stomach becomes too distended and isn’t ready for that amount. So maybe increase the amount by 10 %or so at each feeding? If she vomits at all then decrease the amount again. I am so glad that she is recovering! Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
