Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 lbs
My 3 year old dog was hit by a car on New Year’s Eve and died. Since then my cat has been taking over habits that she did. My cat was always very independent and would spend most of her time outside. Now it’s like she’s attached at my hip and lays next to or near me all the time and started sleeping with my mom. Is she grieving or what ?

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Dogs and cats definitely grieve for other animals. If any of Luna's behaviors are concerning or are not resolving with time, I have had luck with a Bach Flower Essence called Rescue Remedy or a custom compounded blend for grief. http://www.bachflower.com/rescue-remedy-pet/ I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Liquorice. Pets, just like people suffer grief when they lose their companions. They may not think like us, but they can suffer greatly when one of their companions passes away. I would say this is normal behavior. As long as she is eating/drinking/eliminating normally, just monitor her and provide as much love and comfort to her. You may even think about getting a companion for her but only when you are ready to do that. Good luck with her.
