My kitten suddenly lost motor skills and has limp legs. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 3 days old | 2 lbs

My kitten is very small, she is the size of a 12 week old but she is actually 6-7 months. We think that she is very imbred and just not all there. She equilibrium has never been too good like when she was running she wouldn’t always be able to run straight or she’d fall over but in the last 2 days she lost all motor skills. Her legs are totally limp. she is not in any pain from what we can see but her tail is still moving and she’s still eating and drinking. I don’t know what’s wrong.

Hi. I'm sorry about Tess. First, I'd get her to the ER if she has lost motor skills. It is impossible to know what is wrong without an exam, history, and further diagnostics. It sounds like it is most likely congenital, and most likely a primary brain issue. These can be hereditary, from infections, parasites, toxins, and many more. Good luck, and get her seen asap
