Why is my dog in hip pain and screaming when she tries to stand?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bullmastiff | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 80 lbs

My 2 year old bullmastiff/pitbull (Layla) has recently been having pain in i think her left hip. It started last year then goes away. I am not aware of any injury. The past 2 days she is screatching in pain when she gets up. Layla weighs about 85 lbs. I do not have the money to take her to the vet as of now. Any advice would be great

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Layla's care today! Lameness and/or pain in a limb can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. The one thing you can consider doing at home in the mean time is limiting her activity as much as possible which helps in some cases. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
