My adopted cat is quarantined for rabies. What are rabies signs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

My cat who I adopted Saturday is a wuo (wound of unknown origin) cat. Right now she's under quarentine for rabies for another 4 months. She was in the shelter for 48 days before she was put up for adoption they didn't think she had it but they didn't know. She hasn't attacked me or anyone else unless a cat jumping off a dresser onto a stomach is a form of aggression. She's eating normally and going to the bathroom normally but her energy has increased but I also feel like the weather has part in

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think it is unlikely that she is showing signs of having rabies. Animals with rabies usually will show neurologic signs as well which are very noticeable like inappropriate mentation, foaming at the mouth, disorientation, loss of appetite, seizures and paralysis, among others. Of course it is indicated to continue to watch her closely and continue to report your local veterinarian in charge of her care of any concerning changes. Good luck and have a great day!
