What is this hard object on my cat's underside? Is it a claw?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old

This is the second time I've found this small, hard object sticking out of my cats underside. It's a couple inches below his armpit. I had tried to pull it out last time, ans had gotten a piece a few millimeters long out. It seemed solid. It's in the same spot, and there's only one. Is this just a piece of claw, stuck from scratching?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. This could be a piece of nail embedded in the skin from scratching or it could be a cyst. If it does not go away or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
