My cat has a dark oily substance around her vagina. She sometimes acts like she is spraying but she is not as nothing comes out?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are describing could be a yeast infection in the folds of the vulva. I would recommend cleaning this several times per day with a spray such as malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area until resolved. This product can be found online quite easily. If there is no improvement or she worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would definitely have her urine tested to make sure there is no infection. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

I'm wondering if this discharge is around the vulva and not truly coming from the vagina - if so she could have irritation or her vulva from folds of skin, or allergies that are causing secondary infections. If the discharge is truly from her vagina it could be more serious, and a sign of an infection of her cervix or a urinary infection. I would definitely recommend seeing your veterinarian for this problem even though she seems to be acting fine otherwise.
