My dog has a clear, blister-like bump on its leg. What should I do?

This bump on Aspen's leg could be a cyst, a lipoma, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would take Aspen into the vet tomorrow to have the bump examined and diagnosed so it can be treated.

I'm not sure from the picture if it's just the mass the side a little bigger than your thumb nail, or if the entire 6 inch round area around the main bump is red. Either way, I would be worried about a growth first and then perhaps an insect bite if you've only noticed it today. Young dogs can have a type of mass called a histiocytoma that is benign and goes away on it's own eventually. I would recommend a vet visit if it's growing in size, just to be on the safe side.

The bump you are seeing could be a mass, or it could be a skin lesion caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, or could be a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have your dog seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the bump you’ve noticed and to make sure it is treated appropriately. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine what is causing the bump and to provide treatment. . In the meantime, if he is licking the area, I recommend putting an e-collar/cone on him to help prevent licking and reduce the risk of infection.

It is impossible to diagnose a bump from a picture, but some of the possibilities include soft tissue swelling from a trauma, a strain or sprain, inflammation from a sting or bite, of the presence of a small tear in the joint capsule in the carpal area. You can try alternating warm & cold compresses on the area for about 10 minutes 3 times a day, & if it is no better in 3-4 days, or she develops a limp, please see your veterinarian. Take care.

Hi there. This is most likely a histiocytoma. They will often regress on their own within a few weeks to a month. My suggestion would be to take Hazel to your vet for an exam so you can get a more definitive diagnosis. Due to the color, this is either a reaction to an insect bite or a mass. I would expect your vet to want to possibly shave the area to get a closer view of it, and possibly get samples from it. If an insect bite is more likely, then a short course of anti-inflammatory medication can help resolve the area, especially if it is causing Hazel discomfort. This could be an mildly infected gland, a cyst or even a benign skin tumor like an adenoma. You could monitor it for any change in size, color, or any discharge or pain. If it has any of those changes Rose needs to get checked out by her veterinarian. I would not apply any ointment to it at this time.
