My cat was hit by car, not pooping. Is this normal? Food/water tips?

Hello, I'm currently caring for a stray cat who was hit by a vehicle. He is currently suffering from nerve problems due to the impact to his head so he's not fully in control his limbs. He can move but his movements are very limited (usually when he's angry). He's currently eating royal canin's convalescence support. He only pees and doesn't poop at all. Is this normal? Also, how much food and water should i feed him a day? It's quite hard to feed him water. Any tips?

The nerve damage may have affected his ability to pass stool. I recommend getting the cat in to see your vet as he may require enemas and manual extraction of fecal material that has built up. As far as the amount of food and water, encourage him to eat and drink as much as he will take. You can offer low-sodium chicken broth and use it to wet his food to get plenty of fluid into him. He may like that better than plain water and be more willing to drink on his own. Also, try warming his food in the microwave, being careful to stir and test it to make sure it isn't too hot so he won't burn himself.
