My senior cat is breathing hard, snotty, losing weight. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Singapura | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

I have a Singapora cat & she is nearly 17 years old! She is really struggling to breath & sounds quite snotty in her nose (sounds like she has a cold) she has had cancer before in the ear of which her ear got removed! I’m not sure what to do or what I can do to help her! I don’t want to take her to the vets because they will put her down! Her nose is sore but has cream for it! She feels very cold & has lost weight this past few weeks. I just need some advice on how to help her or what to do.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Mecia is having trouble breathing, she should be seen by a vet immediately as she may require stabilization such as fluids or supplemental oxygen to make her more comfortable. A vet may recommend euthanasia, but no vet will euthanize Mecia without your consent.
