My cat with pancreatitis and CKD is vomiting. Vet closed. What now?

As your cat has not been eating for a few days now as well as not drinking, this is an emergency. Cats can get liver disease from not eating for more than 2 days and not drinking will make them dehydrated and feel even worse and less inclined to drink and eat. Vomiting bile can be a sign of chronic or acute pancreatitis. There are some diseases that will have to be ruled out (can be done easily with a blood test), such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism and dental problems. I think taking her to an emergency clinic is definitely warranted.

It is important to note that elderly feline patients with chronic renal disease are much more likely to dehydrate than your average kitty. Some thing you will want to check for at home for evidence of dehydration is the moistness on the gum line as well as the pink / paleness, the skin turgor (the skin should return to the body when you pull on it). Dehydrated cats will also usually appear weak, lethargic and unwilling to perform some normal activities. Without having your cat in front of me, I would say that an actively vomiting cat with chronic renal disease should be seen tonight for sure IF the vomiting continues even once more. If you decide to hold off on going for now, that may be OK. You can consider trying to give something for the vomiting like pepsid or prilosec, though unfortunately I am unable to offer doses. Hope this makes sense. If you are having any doubts are all about your kitty's well being just bite the bullet and have him seen .

An anti-vomiting medication, like Cerenia may help control the vomiting so ask your vet about trying that medication. You could also add a probiotic to his diet (Fortiflora or Proviable) and see if that helps. You could also talk to your vet about changing to a hypoallergenic diet like z/d or d/d and see if that makes a difference.

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty! Pancreatitis in cats is very serious, and can cause significant discomfort. If your cat isn't eating or drinking much, he may not urinate or defecate much. If you don't think the medication is helping, I recommend you chat with your veterinarian for other options. If your cat is lifeless and not responding to you at all, then you should take him to an emergency vet right away. Best wishes for you and your cat.

I am sorry to hear that! I hope you are safe from the storm! I would try offering her boiled/baked chicken and cooked white rice (mixed 1:1 ratio) in small frequent meals. Make sure to have plenty of water around and watch her bowel movements and urinations. If she has significant vomiting and/or diarrhea I would try to get her into your vet as soon as you can! Your Vet, if you call them, should have an answering machine providing emergency clinic numbers. I wouldn't be too sure they are closed Monday. My hospital is open. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, foreign body, dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion, kidney or liver problems, food allergy/intolerance, coughing from asthma. Your cat really needs to see a vet if he has been vomiting for hours. I would see if there is an ER clinic in your area you can take him into now. If not, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Please find an ER vet or a vet on call to see him now. Until them, withhold food and offer water. Keep him warm and comfortable.

This is very concerning. Your cat may be suffering from pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism or severe gastritis or an intestinal blockage, By now this is an emergency and you will need to take your cat to a vet right away. Do not wait until the weekend or after , as your cat may even get sicker considering no food is being held. This can cause hyerlipidemia in addition to her illness and is life threatening. Hello. It sounds like Tuxx is very sick. If there is a 24hour clinic in your area I recommend taking him now. He could have many conditions however both renal disease and diabetic ketoacidosis are possible from the history you have given, and these can be life threatening if not addressed. DKA could result in death tonight if he crashes. If tonight is not possible to get him to the vet just try to get as much fluid into him as possible without risking him aspirating (fluid going into yhe lungs) and offer any food he will eat. Poor guy. If he has vomited more than a few times within an hour and seems unstable (lethargic, weak, non-responsive), then this is considered an emergency and he should go to any available vet or ER vet today. However, if he is still active, nice pink gums, and responsive, you can monitor him to see if the vomiting subsides. You should also fast him (not food, only water) for at least 12 hrs, then try offering him a bland diet of tuna and white rice or lean ground turkey and white rice to see if you can help settle his stomach. Hopefully he turns around and just ate something that upset his stomach a bit. I hope that Mitch recovers soon from his apparent stomach upset. Best of luck moving forward. Take care. : )
