Why is my cat losing fur on her belly and has painful stomach lumps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Curl | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My cats hair keeps falling out around her belly, tail, and back legs. It has been doing this awhile now and hasn’t grown but to match her other fur. Also, her stomach has some sort of knots in it. She doesn’t like for them to be touched either. Please give me some sort of feed back on this.

Poor Sadie! I'm sorry that she's having this problem. Hair loss in particular areas like this can be caused by a number of different issues. Some common possibilities would include allergies, fleas, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). The knots on her stomach could be mammary tumors, some other type of skin growth or tumor, or even a severe skin infection. Sadie will need an exam and some diagnostic testing by your vet in order to determine what is causing these issues, so I would recommend taking her in for a visit as soon as you are able to. Your vet can do some simple skin tests to help diagnose the reason for the hair loss, and may also recommend a biopsy or other testing of the knots on her stomach if needed to determine what they are.
