Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs
Hi, I have a diabetic cat who is on a specialized diet and gets insulin twice a day. I’m worried I won’t be around to feed him and give him his next shot (bc nye) and want to use an auto feeder for this one specific occurrence. I’m worried about him getting high blood sugar (we have three cats so I’m programming the feeder to dispense enough food for all three). Basically can he die if he gorges himself on the food via high blood sugar? Please put my mind at ease.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is very unlikely to happen and I do not think that you need to worry about him having severe adverse effects from developing high blood sugar from eating too much just one time. The one thing I would recommend is that you do not give him the dose of insulin tonight unless you are sure that he is going to eat as if he gets the insulin at that time without eating, he may develop low blood sugar which is very dangerous. Good luck and I hope you can enjoy your new year festivities! Happy new year!
