Kitten has bald spots above eye after URI meds, is it ringworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1.05 lbs

I found a kitty (onyx) about 3 weeks ago abandoned and in the cold and took her to the vet immediately to make sure she was in good shape. I was told she had an Upper respiratory infection from the cold outside and she was put on antibiotics and some eye drops to help her recover. Giving her the antibiotics she started to look better but right after her 10 days of medicine she developed 2 bald patches above her eye and they just keep worse. She’s still playful and seems fine but I’m worried.

This looks like a ringworm infection. Kittens do get ringworm especially if they have been sick. You should take her to your veterinarian for a diagnosis and treatment. This isn’t an emergency though so you can wait until next week. This can spread to people so please wash your hands after handling her. With treatment and as she grows up and becomes healthier it will clear up fairly quickly. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Onyx.
