My cat has skin lesions and hair loss. What's the cause and cure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 6 years and 11 months old

I found these recently on my mail inside outside cat. He is almost 6 years old. I can't afford to take him to the vet but I don't want him to suffer if he is going to be in pain. I need to make a plan on when to take him in to have him put down. I know this can't be good but I don't know exactly what it is.

This can be due to overgrooming due to stress and allergies. Although this looks terrible it often can improve with a steroid injection and prednisone, sometimes also antibiotics. I do not think this is cancer so if you can find a way to get treatment Jax may improve. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Jax.
