Are stray cats staring at my kitten a threat or do they want him back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 9.5 lbs

I adopted a 2week old kitten about 5 months back(he was shivering and needed rescuing) and recently two FULL GROWN cats showed up at my door and started staring at me (upon enquiry, i got to know that they MIGHT be his actual parents) i got really scared and closed the door in haste. After closing the door, i heard them meowing pretty loudly. Could they be trying to hurt my kitten? Do they want him back? How'd they know about him?

Cats do not have familial bonds once weaned and grown. If they are related, there is no further attachment to you kitten and they don't know about him or want him back. They may be meowing because they are hungry or thirsty and it is likely unrelated to your kitten being there and they were not drawn there to harm your kitten. They may have belonged to someone and are looking for care and affection.
