My new ferrets have diarrhea after introduction. What remedies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Male | neutered | 2 lbs

I introduced new ferrets (one aged 3, and then later two aged about 7 months) to my single ferret (age 2) household and the newbies have had diarrhea! The stool is changing over time so I attributed this to stress and diet change, but it’s been nearly a week and the diarrhea is better but not altogether gone. All the stool is different in texture as well. All ferrets are eating and drinking and playful. Is it okay to try pedialyte, pumpkin purée, pepto bismol?

Hi, A pic of the feces would have been useful. In any case, unless it is really watery or if they become lethargic, I wouldn't be too worried. Would also not give any of the things mentioned above. If at all, you could try the good old rice trick (mixing some with their food). Give it a few more days.
