My puppy's eyes are dark blue. Is this normal or a sign of blindness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I found a puppy yesterday, he opened his eyes but they're completely dark blue, is it normal for a puppy or does mean he's blind? Thanks

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This appears (from first glance) to be a very young puppy-most of which have a "blue eye" that may change color as the puppy ages. Without doing a complete opthalmic exam, it is impossible to tell you whether or not your puppy is visual, but given the looks and approximate age it may be nothing at all. If you take your puppy in to your local veterinarian, they will be able to perform a complete exam and give you a definitive answer on visual acuity of your pet. I hope this helps!
