Kitten has cold, nose bleeding. What home care & immune boosters help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 months and 24 days old | 3 lbs

Hi! MY kitten is 3 months old. He has a weaker immune system and has gotten a cold two times now. This one is making him sneeze to the point where his nose is bleeding. What can I️ do for him? I️ don’t want to spend $300 at the vet if I️ can care for him at home. Also, is there any immune boosters you recommend? I️ read about some products that help kittens and cats build their immune systems. thanks!

Hello, sorry to hear about Henri. Cats, especially kittens may suffer from recurrent upper respiratory tract infections. This is generally causes by 3 main diseases (herpes virus, calici virus, or chlamydia). Most commonly in the US, herpes virus is an underlying cause for recurrent URI. This may be different in the UK. Most common management is to administer antibiotics for secondary infections and anti-viral gel such as lysine to decrease replication of the virus. Most often, cats improve within 5-7 days, if Henry does not, then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian tomorrow morning, Hope this helps and best of luck.
