Why is my cat stressed and hissing after a fight? Will she be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 1 month old | 6.9 lbs

My cat got into a fight with another cat today and has been acting weird since. She'll scope out the place where the fight happened and hisses at anyone in the family who gets close. But when she gets inside my room, she'll be calm and friendly. How long will this last? Will my cat be okay?

Cats can keep up this stress type behavior sometimes for days. If she seems comfortable in your room then I would consider closing the door and keeping her safe if your room for a few days and then allow her access to the other areas in time. You can also use a product called feliway to decrease some of the tension. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
