My cat is breathing hard, not acting like himself, and not eating.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old

My cat is breathing hard, kind of labored breathing and he isn’t acting like himself. He is hiding a lot and barely eats, especially his favorite food. He was dry heaving last night but never vomited.

I'm sorry that Mo isn't feeling well! I recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what is going on. Trouble breathing is considered a medical emergency, and Mo should be seen immediately if you believe this is happening. Labored breathing in cats can be caused by pain, lung issues, or obstructions. I hope this helps and that all is well with Mo!
