Why is my cat constantly trying to pee with blood, but nothing?

This may sound odd, but luckily she is a female. Male cats can develop an obstruction of the urethra relatively easily, as the urethra is very narrow and can get plugged with inflammatory cells, debris, stones, and the swelling of the urethra itself can become obstructive. A urethral obstruction is an emergency, because life threatening electrolyte abnormalities can start to occur that can result in cardiac arrest, also the bladder can actually rupture. Having said all of that, this problem is rare in female cats. Its possible that a stone could get lodged in the urethra, but their urethras are shorter and wider than that of male cats so we just don't see it much at all in females. She very well may have a significant amount of inflammation in her urinary tract that is making her feel like she constantly has to go even when shes not producing anything. Causes of bloody urine are: stress bladder inflammation (cystitis), urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. Prevent her from urination by keeping her in her carrier or in a room with out a litter box for a few hours before the appointment so the Vet can collect a urine sample to test. This is an emergency. Axl Raine may be suffering from a serious urinary tract or kidney infection, he may have bladder stones that are damaging the lining of the bladder and urethra and so causing bleeding. Since he has trouble urinating, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away, so please take him to a Pet ER or an emergency veterinarian now. The vet will give him a thorough exam. will likely want to do blood work to make sure his kidneys and liver functions are normal, will do radiographs of the bladder, try to harvest urine to examine that. He may have to be hospitalized and put on an iv drip, pain medicine, and anti-inflammatory, and if his urethra is obstructed he will need to be catheterized. Please, take her to your local vets for an appointment, as most likely she will need a course of antibiotics to get better.

She may not be eating because she is uncomfortable or has a fever. I recommend that Julie sees a Veterinarian. They may check her urine for infection or crystals. If she is older they may want to run blood work. They also may want to take an X-ray to check for a bladder stone. If it is a urinary tract infection she needs antibiotics. If Tibou has a normal energy level and has been eating and drinking, and is able to urinate, and if you press on her belly and she isn't painful then this is something that can probably wait until your vet opens in the morning. We can see urinary tract infections in older cats in particular females with kidney disease. A urinary tract infection can cause the symptoms you describe. Other possible causese could include bladder stones, sterile cystitis (inflammation of the bladder without infection), tumors of the bladder or other parts of the urinary tract, or primary renal hematuria. I would call your vet in the morning for an appointment where they can check the urine and may recommend imaging such as an x-ray or ultrasound. If Tibou is acting lethargic, has a painful abdomen, is vomiting or having trouble breathing, or hasn't been eating or drinking then a visit to the emergency vet is recommended. Frequent attempts at urination, with blood in the urine or stranguria (straining to urinate) can be due to cystitis, as you breeder has said, due to an infection in the urinary system, or sometimes our pets can get bladder or kidney stones, much like their human counterparts. Unfortunately this is something that really requires veterinary care-she will likely need antibiotics and some pain medication to relieve her from the pain she feels when trying to urinate. When urinating is painful, often they will hold their urine and create a worse infection. X rays may be warranted to rule out stones, and the best thing would be a urinalysis to see exactly what the contents of the urine are like. Would there be a vet who could treat your kitten for such a thing? Encourage drinking as best you can-increased fluids will at least dilute the urine and help to flush the kidneys. If she appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until tomorrow morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP.
