My cat has diarrhea and vomiting. Should I feed her or call vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11.5 lbs

7 yr old cat went to vet 12/14 for case.of diarrhea. Took 8 days of metronidazole - 1/4 (250 mg). Has seemed to respond well until early this morning. Heard her vomiting this morning - although can not find any emysis - and diarrhea in litter box. Xmas Eve - not sure if should contact vet, or offer at-home care until 12/26. Tuffy is energetic and crying for her morning food. Not sure if I should feed her immmediately. Thanks!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is having diarrhea after the treatment, there is likely something else wrong. I would recommend having her re-examined and do further diagnostics like X-rays and blood work to determine why. If she is still eating and drinking and energetic, you could wait until Tuesday. But if she is vomiting, I would have her treated sooner so she doesn’t get dehydrated. Good luck and kisses to Tuffy!
