My 10-year-old cat is vomiting after eating. What can I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Norwegian Forest Cat | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

My 10y/o cat has vomited every time after eating for the past 12h, dry & wet food. Not sure if he has pooped in that time, but urinating normally. Interested in eating both wet and dry food. Still friendly and approachable, sleeping properly. Vomit contains undigested and partially digested food and water. Will take him to the vet tomorrow as I need time to travel, but any advice on how to manage his symtoms now would be very helpful. Thanks.

Poor Mack! I'm sorry to hear he isn't feeling well! There's not many things you can do at home to help with the vomiting, but you can try to offer him a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or pumpkin to see if this helps settle his stomach. There are many things that could be causing the vomiting like a food sensitivity, kidney disease, or intestinal blockage. Some of these conditions are more serious than others so I'd recommend you do your best to have Mack examined as soon as possible. If his condition worsens or he develops other issues (like inappetance, lethargy, or diarrhea) he should be seen right away. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope Mack is feeling better soon!
