Hello, cancer may present as lumps. In middle aged dogs like Max, mast cell tumors and soft tissue sarcomas may be some kinds of cancers that affect middle aged dogs. However, benign lumps such as lipomas are most likely in middle aged dogs that are also overweight. Lipomas can occur in multiple places at the same time and not all have to be removed. Your veterinarian can obtain a needle sample of the cells to determine if the lumps are something you should be concerned about. Alternatively, when these bumps are removed, you veterinarian may submit them for biopsy to rule out the possibility of cancer. Hope this helps and best of luck.
