Why does my rabbit have body lumps, sticky eyes, and a black spot?

Hi My rabbit seems to have lumps all over his body and is recently struggling to open his eyes properly due to them being sticky. He also seems to have developed a Black patch on his back

Poor Snowy! These symptoms are very concerning as they can be caused by several dangerous viral infections. I recommend separating him from any other rabbits he lives with to prevent transmitting the disease. He should be seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what is going on as this may also be caused by a bacterial infection or fur mites. Your vet will be able to perform a physical exam and provide supportive care if needed.

My rabbit has a bulge at the bottom of his left ear just above the eye with one starting on his right side. There is also a cottage cheese type goo around the eyes which is hard and is green looking with an odour. Please help
I am concerned that these could be abscesses or even tumors. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. In the meantime warm compresses to the eyes to help loosen discharge may help make him feel better. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

The best thing is to gently feel the lump and figure out how big it is ( for example, as big as a cherry pit, or measure it if you can. Write this down and then measure it again a week later. If it has grown, you should take your rabbit to a veterinarian as it could be a tumor or a cyst or an abscess. If it does not grow and does not ooze nor the skin starts to turn red, then I would not worry about it, and only show it to your vet the next time you take Albie in for an exam or vaccinations.

This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Keep the area clean and dry. Consider an exam with your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits to diagnose and treat infection or injury. A fine needle aspirate can be done in the clinic to collect samples for pathology to diagnose a malignancy.

Poor Shu! I can see that the growth is relatively large and inflamed. It also appears to have a bit of dead tissue in the center. This is likely to be fairly painful, so Shu should be seen by a vet to receive pain medication and a thorough cleaning of the area which may require mild sedation. There are certain viruses that predispose rabbits to developing masses, and while there is no cure for the virus itself, the mass can be removed to improve quality of life. If you have any other rabbits, I recommend separating them from Shu as the virus can be contagious. I hope this helps and that all is well!

The sneezing and runny nose is a very big deal as rabbits are prone to bacterial infections and pneumonia. Butterball should see a vet right away for a diagnosis and to get on the appropriate medication so that the upper respiratory infection doesn't get worse and turn into pneumonia. The crusty areas could be a skin infection or other condition that the vet can diagnose and start the appropriate treatment for as well. Make sure the vet you go to has experience treating rabbits. Thanks for reaching out about Fluffy and including a photo. Ocular secretions can become thicker and not drain through the lacrimal duct, when certain conditions arise. This could be an infection, dental disease (affecting drainage), stress and other problems. Continue to wipe the eye area with a moistened clear wash cloth. If worsens, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Remember, having your rabbit spayed is very important as rabbits have a high incidence of uterine neoplasia. Good luck.

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Hello, and thank you for your question. Bunnies can commonly get upper respiratory tract infections that manifest as runny eyes, nose, and sneezing. If he is also having difficulty breathing, I would also worry about pneumonia. I would encourage your friend to take their bunny to the vet, who can check for infection and prescribe the right medications to treat him. Sometimes eye problems can be related to dental issues as well, so I would make sure the vet takes a good look at his teeth. I hope this helps, and that bunny starts feeling better soon!

Myxomatosis causes lumpy lesions around the eyes and genitals so it seems unlikely. I think it is likely the rabbit has a response infection which is fairly common. They get pasturella in their lungs which needs to be treated with antibiotics. I would make her a vet appointment asap.
