My budgie is yawning and tail bobbing. Is it a respiratory infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 1 day old

My 9 month old budgie is yawning really frequently, his tail is bobbing and hes huddled up next to his new partner. His old mate died yesterday from a stroke caused by a dormant disease. I am worried that he is getting sick like his mate

He is exhibiting symptoms of respiratory infection. This may be bacterial viral or due to parasites (mites). Consider having him examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet to diagnose the exact cause. The new bird should also be examined to confirm good health. Keep both birds warm and as stress free as possible until they see the veterinarian.
