My hamster has a growing lump on its chin and neck. What is it?

Two days ago I noticed a lump of skin hanging from right-below the mouth (chin?) of my hamster. It appears to have very slightly increased in size (in three days). Please note that I did not notice this lump because I didn't handle my hamster for some time. Today I noticed a bump under the skin. It is right below where a human skull ramus would be. It appears slightly red and not big enough to notice at first glance. I cannot post images because my hamster was squirming too much.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From your description, it sounds like Beta may have some masses, which are increasing in size and possibly spreading. These can be cancerous, skin infections, or insect bites. I recommend taking your hamster to the vet, who can take small samples of these areas and determine exactly what is going on. You may elect to have these masses removed completely, as well.
