My dog's poop is bloody and slimy after spay. Is it normal to worry?

Mia was spayed this past Saturday and came home Monday. She recently had her first bowel movement since she came home, and it was covered in blood and green/gray slime. She also recieved all of her vaccines around the time of her spay. She's still eating, and drinking rather a lot. But her activity level has waned...though that could be the E collars doing. I was wondering if this is a normal occurence or something to worry about. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 22 days old | 3.9 lbs

Hi there. Poor Mia- a rough few days! Blood in the stool, or colitis, is not a normal occurrence. However, we do know that stress can cause or be a factor in colitis. And she has had a lot of stress on her body this week! I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. I usually put these guys on a very bland diet and probiotics. Occasionally I also start antibiotics if I have a concern about an infectious process. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon!
