Why is my dog suddenly hiding, shaking, and panting in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Russell Terrier | Female | 6 years and 9 months old | 14 lbs

Missy seems to be in pain at times,ok generally but suddenly runs and hides trys to escape or starts shaking uncontrollable panting with ears pinned back,no way of calming her. Settles with tramadol that was previously perscribed to her but doesn't want to be touched overly afterwards.pees poos fine not overly hungry but eating better few hours after tramadol.

I'm sorry to hear that Missy is not feeling well. The signs you describe can definitely be caused by pain, or any number of internal conditions. While tramadol is relatively safe when given to healthy animals at the correct dosage, it is also somewhat of a sedative, and may mask underlying health conditions. I recommend having Missy seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what is going on. Your vet may perform blood work or x-rays after a good physical exam to reach a diagnosis. I'm happy to answer any additional questions you may have!
