Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 65 lbs
We have s lab/blue healer, she is about 1 year old. She was a rescue dog that came to our family at the end of July. The last couple of days her eye has been very runny, and the white area is very red. She acts happy, is playful and she eats normally. Thoughts about her eye?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Possible causes are: allergies or the start of a conjunctivitis. Anytime the eye is described as red I recommend having your Vet take a look. If the eyes aren't painful (keeping them closed or blinking a lot) you can wait until tomorrow. More serious conditions that cause a eye to be red are uveitis, glaucoma or a scratch on the cornea. Allergies are treated with antibiotic/steroid drops for the eye and an infection is treated with antibiotic drops. I hope this helps and I wish Jazz a speedy recovery!
