You Hello I have a pet guinea pig tonight I noticed that he was squinting his right eye while I was taking him out to clean his cage and I notice it was swollen and his cornea is very cloudy and there were 3 pieces of hay stuck in there so I gently flushed his eye out with water but I had to use tweezers to remove a pice of hay that was logged in his eye lid. He seems to be okay now but I don’t know what else to do I would go to the vet but I don’t have the funds for him to seek treatment.

I suggest you get this eye ointment to put in the eye 2-3 times per day. If after about 4 days of treatment there is no improvement or if the eye looks worse at any time then you will need to take Chauncey to the vet for an exam. I would continue to flush the eye out once a day with saline solution as well. http://www.allivet.com/p-1292-terramycin-ophthalmic-ointment.aspx http://www.allivet.com/p-1294-eye-wash-solution-4-oz.aspx Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thanks for reaching out about Piper and including photos. A veterinary visit should be scheduled as soon as possible. This is probably a scratch, but these tend to become infected easily so ophthalmic antibiotics and analgesia are recommended. Systemic (oral) antibiotics and analgesia might also be beneficial. If the eye swells to the point of affecting blinking, the cornea could dry and the eye lost, necessitating surgical enucleation. Good luck.
