My spayed dog has a swollen and bloody vagina. What's going on?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | 8 months and 9 days old | 10 lbs

So I Lilly is almost 9 months old and she was fixed back in September and she suddenly has a swollen vagiana and it’s bloody. I may have possibly scratched it with my engagement ring this afternoon when she was squirming in my arms but I’m not 100% and would like a little more of an answer.

I would first get a Urine sample checked to see if there is a bladder infection causes the bloody discharge. With that swelling I would also have your vet check a hormone panel to see if there is remaining ovary tissue left behind that is causing these signs if a heat cycle. I would not thick a scratch would cause that amount of edema
