My cat's skin is white and he has low red blood cells. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 10 lbs

Our cat has something none of the vets around can fuigure out. He lost many red blood cells and had to go to the emergency room at the vet. We think it’s some kind of disease but his skin, nose, and lips are all white as snow. Do you know what this is?

Poor Albert - he does look very pale. There are many possible causes of severe anemia or blood loss in cats and blood tests would be recommended in order to diagnose the exact cause. Viruses such as FELV/FIV, feline infectious anemia, various toxins and autoimmune conditions can all contribute as can accidents which cause severe internal or external bleeding
